Record cruise ship figures on the Costa Brava

Photographer David Rueda

The Costa Brava concluded the 2025 cruise season with record figures at the ports of Palamós and Roses. The combined activity amounts to 80 ship calls (+27% compared with 2024) and 69,000 passengers (+23% compared with 2024).
According to data from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the estimated economic impact of this activity on the territory was €6.6 million, 29% more than the previous season.
The Girona ports, promoted under the Costa Brava Cruise Ports brand, are aiming to host medium- and small-sized cruise ships with high-value customers and to position themselves as boutique ports in the Mediterranean.

Port of Palamós: record in terms of de-seasonalisation
The Port of Palamós closed 2025 with a new record, registering 65 cruise ship calls and 65,000 passengers, which represents a 30% increase in calls and a 27% increase in passengers compared to the previous year. This growth highlights a strong de-seasonalising effect, as 63% of cruise ships arrived in the low season, contributing significantly to the local economy over eight months. Visitors came predominantly from the United Kingdom (72%) and the United States (12%). In addition to visiting the town, the cruise passengers took excursions to places such as Pals, Girona, Tossa de Mar, Empúries, Begur, Figueres, Peratallada and Platja d’Aro.

Port of Roses: exponential growth
The Port of Roses recorded exponential growth in cruise activity, with 15 calls (almost double that of 2024) and 4,000 cruise passengers (triple the number of passengers over the previous year). The activity in Roses also shows great potential for de-seasonalisation, with the cruise season lasting eight months (from April to November) and half of the calls made in the low season. As for origin, the main visitors were American (34%), French (21%), Australian (8%) and British (7%). Cruise passengers disembarking in Roses booked excursions focusing on the cultural and gastronomic offerings, including Figueres (Dalí Theatre-Museum), Peralada, Cadaqués and elBulli1846.
