The province of Girona received 5 million tourists and reached 16 million overnight stays between January and July 2026. Tourist activity in the Girona region is clearly on a positive trajectory. According to provisional data collected by the Eurecat Tourism Observatory (TDS), the province of Girona received 5,124,951 tourists during the first seven months of the year (from January to July 2026), who generated a total of 16,244,272 overnight stays in regulated tourist accommodation establishments.
These figures improve on the results recorded in the same period in 2025, with a 9.5% increase in visitor arrivals and a 5.3% increase in overnight stays. The continued growth in visitor numbers throughout the year is particularly noteworthy, with a very significant increase during the winter and spring months, which confirms the change in consumer habits and the consolidation of the trend towards deseasonalisation of the destination.
Analysis by source markets
• The national market establishes itself as the primary driving force: The domestic market — including visitors from Catalonia — registered 2.8 million arrivals and 8.3 million overnight stays, which represents an 18% growth in both indicators compared to the previous year. As of today, domestic tourism already accounts for 55% of the total number of tourists and 51% of stays in the province, positioning itself as the main tourism market for destinations in Girona.
• Behaviour of the international market and new dynamics: The international market provisionally accounts for 2.3 million tourists and 8 million overnight stays. Although the number of arrivals remains stable compared to the same period last year, there has been a decrease of about 6% in the overall volume of overnight stays. This figure highlights a change in the travel pattern: there is a shortening of the length of stay during the months of June and July, in contrast to a lengthening of stays in the spring months.
By country of origin, the ranking is led by France, followed by the Netherlands, the UK, Germany and Belgium. It is worth highlighting the 15% increase in tourism from Italy and the remarkable stabilisation of the North American market.
Results by tourist brands
• Costa Brava: It maintains its strong appeal with 4.5 million visitors (+9.7% year-on-year) and 15 million overnight stays (+4.9% year-on-year) in these seven months of activity.
• Girona Pyrenees: It recorded an extraordinary winter season — the best in its history — and registered a 9.6% growth in the number of overnight stays compared with 2025.
The Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board values these provisional indicators positively, as they confirm the vitality and the strength of the tourist activity in the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees destinations. The organisation is now waiting to collect and analyse both the occupancy data for the months of August and September and the final economic impact derived from visitor spending.
